A Letter from our President Kristin B. Thompson
Dear Garden and Flower Enthusiasts on Kiawah,
I am writing to both members of the Kiawah Island Garden Club, as well as future members and lovers of all things floral on our beautiful island. I am very happy to be starting my second year as President and I appreciate all the help and input that I have received over the past year. Of particular note is a big "thank you" to Cheryl Boswell. Cheryl has served as our Treasurer for seven years. She has been a steady hand on our finances and the kind recipient of reservations for most of our programs. We could not have operated without her skillful labor, and we are very grateful to Cheryl for her long and diligent service. Thank you, Cheryl!
We are fortunate that one of our recent members, Lisa Milo, is stepping up to be our next Treasurer. She has been reviewing the various tasks and will be ready to receive your dues payments for the 2023-24 program year starting in August. You can mail your check payable to: Kiawah Island Garden Club to Lisa Milo, 70 LeMoyne Lane, Kiawah Island, SC 29455. We are able to keep the dues for the program year - August 1, 2023 until July 31, 2024 - at a low cost of $15.
The first half of our program year is shaping up nicely. We will have a casual get together at the Sandcastle in September, a tour and talk at Caw Caw Park in early October followed by a brief walking tour and house tour in historic Charleston later in the month. In November, we will have a hands-on holiday decor workshop. We will celebrate the Holiday to view the decorations at the Sanctuary and a luncheon at Jasmine Porch in December.
As we look to the future, I would like to encourage everyone to send me your ideas for future programs. My email is kristin@rhettsbluff.com and I look forward to receiving your thoughts. My plan is to gather suggestions. When we gather on September 20, we can brainstorm ideas for programs for our group for 2024. I hope you have had a good gardening yard to date - I actually had a bumper crop of tomatoes this year (in a raised bed on my deck away from the hungry wildlife). Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Thank you in advance for your participation and for your ideas for the future.
Best Wishes,
Kristin B. Thompson
Kiawah Island Garden Club President
